Who needs "Monitoring System"?:
Sprinkler monitoring is a requirement that comes from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 13), which states that if the system has more than 100 heads, it should be monitored by a Central Station.

General description of "Monitoring System":
Monitored system means that a "Remote central station" (vs. local, on premises station, i.e. hotel receptionist) will be able to receive specific signals coming from a system so that it can dispatch the Fire Department on an "Alarm signal" or advise the service vendor on a "Trouble signal" when it may occur.




System requirements:

• Power:  System should have its own dedicated 110 Volt 20 Amp breaker. Breaker shall be locked & marked as "Fire Alarm".
• Phone lines: System requires 2 telephone lines. One must be dedicated.
• What needs to be monitored: 

According to NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm standard) system should send the following signals:   

• Water Flow switch (Flow).
• "Close" condition of any of the Sprinkler valves (Supervisory).
• General trouble from the main Fire Alarm Panel, if installed (Trouble).
• General Alarm from the main Fire Alarm Panel, if installed (Alarm).
• The monitoring panel must be protected by a smoke detector (Smoke Detector).
• If there is no "Local Fire Control Panel", one manual pull station must be provided (Pull Station).
• Location of Main Monitoring Panel: Electrical/ Telephone room, or by the main Sprinkler riser.
• Plans, Permit & Inspection: Most cities require plan check & an installation permit for a Fire Monitoring system (even for an existing building). Permit fee’s range from $75 to $350.
• Equipment: There are many possible choices. We can install a 4-zones panel & we can install a 400-zones panel. It is based on what will best suit the job.  On a 1-2 riser system we will install a 4-zone panel, we will connect all sprinkler devices to the panel, there will be one smoke detector above the panel, & one manual pull station for early alarm notification.
